Quiet Cove

Quiet Cove...a 9 x 12 oil demo from this morning.  I started with a palette knife and blocked in values and then went back with a brush to create detail

  1. Hi. Aline, Love the colors and mood of this painting. I have an interest in working mainly with the palette knife. And glad you had explained how you get started. Do you work all your landscapes paintings with a palette knife?

    1. Thank you Marlene. No, I don't start them all that way. Large paintings I do usually start with a palette knife, but small ones like these I don't. But I wanted my students to see how I could get values, color fields and texture with a palette knife which made it much easier when I then went into detail with a brush. This was especially effective on the mass of dark trees.
