No, I don't start them all...Thank you Marlene. No, I don't start them all that way. Large paintings I do usually start with a palette knife, but small ones like these I don't. But I wanted my students to see how I could get values, color fields and texture with a palette knife which made it much easier when I then went into detail with a brush.
