Horses, Mackinaw Island

The second in my paintings for Mackinaw Island. There are no cars on this island but a lot of horses.

  1. Beautiful painting, Aline! A lot of details for a small canvas..great job.

  2. Wow, Aline! You & horses are a great match. I saw your spread in the recent Pastel Journal & I loved your pastel of the jockeys on their mounts. You convey so much in a simple dash of color-the same is true in this painting. Did you work from a photo on this? It seems like you were just passing by & chose to knock out a painting the instant you saw this're just that good! L&K, MaryB

  3. Hi! Thank you so much. I wanted to email you but couldn't find your address.
I do work from photos, especially living in Vermont! But I am very gratified to hear that it looked like I just stopped and did it as that is always my goal.
Do you work in any medium?

    1. Dear Aline,
My email is If you ever have time to email me, I'd love it--but I know you're busy! Yup, I work in pastel. I used to do oils, but now I have a disabled neck & must lie back to be comfortable. I can do pastels on my bed, bolstered by my Rottweilers, but oils would make a big mess...
Anyway, your pastels are TOO fabulous & all have that sense of immediacy, as though you'd sketched them as they happened. I learn a lot by studying them. L&K,
