CENTRAL VT PASTEL SOCIETY DEMO

I often do "10 stroke" exercises with my students.  The idea is to light an object so there is a cast shadow and then using only 10 strokes begin to define that object.  This is a good exercise for being deliberate with your colors, strokes and values.  In this demo, I did several 10 strokes and then showed how to continue from there...but still used limited strokes.

  1. Aline, these studies are brilliant and so is the exercise you describe. I must try it since I often noodle around with my strokes trying to "sneak up" on the right one. Decisive action is clearly the way to go! Thanks so much for posting this. MaryB
