Did an exercise with my class today. Take the same image and reproduce it several times...once true to "what you see" and then change the color and design. They found it difficult but great...it forces you to deal with the painting on its own and not as a copy of a scene.
It sounds to me like an exercise I should be taking. I would love to paint looser but it never works for me....sigh!!!!! Beautiful work....
