 My 9 x 12 oil demo for class.  I used two different photo references and created my colors being inspired but in no way wedded to my photos

PASTEL VASE WITH FLOWERS PROCESS

 This is a 12 x 16 pastel of a vase with flowers against a busy background.  I am posting stills of my process.  I start with squinting to see the basic values and look at shapes only without deciding what they are.  This is an example of working thinking abstractly to create an illustrative painting.  I keep things general at first and then go into details.

MONDAY OIL DEMO

 Here is my one hour oil demo for Monday.  I focused on shadow shapes and carving them with the light to create the scene.

 Always practicing.  I often take screen shots of people so I can practice my portraits.

 I sometimes try my hand at watercolor...I'm not great but it's fun to try.  Here is the same image in oil and pastel.
