10 strokes

Love to do this exercise with my students.   The student can draw out the object in value using charcoal.  Then, when you apply the color, you can only use ten strokes.  This forces the student to think hard about the color and value and direction of the stroke before applying it.

The onions are a continuation of this.  Starting with just ten strokes and then adding only a few to complete the painting.

horse demos

Horseheads  6" x 6"
These are my demos from this morning's oil class.  The bottom one, "Horse Light" (9" x 12") was primarily to show how to take a photo (the middle one) and be inspired by it but make it something else.  In these cold winters, working outside isn't my cup of tea so when I work from photos I try to be inspired by them, not wedded to them.
