I plan to post current paintings on my blog site. I'm not much of a writer but I do love to paint. I do oils and pastels and I teach workshops. I plan to sometimes post demos and talk about how to create a painting as well. Please check out my website at www.alineordman.com

Fine Art Connoisseur
Wow. Fine Art Connoisseur chose my painting, "Charleston Interior" to be included in this month's issue article "Looking Inside". I am in awe of the other artists they chose and really honored to be included with them!

Oil Painters of America
I am amazed, proud and honored to have "Getting into Trees" 18 x 24 oil, accepted into the 2018 Oil Painters of America's National Juried Show. This is the hardest show to get into and one that has eluded me often. So excited!

Peacham Light
Some of you may recognize the opening and tree...I have done a different version in the past. In this one, I wanted to expand to have more of the dark trees on either side and simplify some of the color 18 x 24 oil on canvas

Simplifying the complicated
My demo from class this morning. I am showing some of the lead ups to the final too. I approached this thinking of how to take a complicated subject matter and make it simple.
First...squinting I looked at the general design of the values and let that guide me in the big picture. Then I roughed in the front figures to know they would fit. Only then did I get into some more details. It is not unlike the flowers from the last post...start with the simplest pattern of light and dark and then allow details to emerge.

Bouquet demo
One of my students brought in flowers for me to demo in oil class. I started by squinting and seeing the big shadows shapes and the overall contour. Then I roughed in the color fields. Only after that did any specific flours emerge and only at the end did the few light highlights emerge.
