I plan to post current paintings on my blog site. I'm not much of a writer but I do love to paint. I do oils and pastels and I teach workshops. I plan to sometimes post demos and talk about how to create a painting as well. Please check out my website at www.alineordman.com

Ten Strokes
I often do a "ten stroke" exercise with my class. This helps with strokes, making decisions about color with determination, keeping things simple, and technique wise, getting comfortable with loading the brush with paint.
The pepper and eggplant are my ten stroke demos, the artichoke is where it started and then goes.

Wellfleet Boats
Wellfleet Boats is a pastel demonstration from my Wednesday class. 12" x 9" Once again the idea was to play with color and take a gray ordinary day and make it something more. Took out one of the boats as it was too repetitive in design and value.

Lilacs...demonstration
LILACS demonstration
I start with the basic values in vine charcoal. Then put in the color fields always thinking about shapes and values. Details come toward the end. In this way, you always work the whole pastel at the same level until you are ready for the finishing touches of details.
