Bill

This was a portrait demo in a head painting class.

Retro Pottery

We set up a difficult but beautiful still life of old, wonderfully colored pottery in my class Monday. It proved to be very difficult and a struggle. I did a small, 6 x 6 inch oil focusing in on a small area. I'm not sure how I feel about this one. I was really impressed with what my different students did....each one following their own very distinct path.

Fishing...Demo Painting

In these cold days especially, I often work from photos I've taken. People get so wedded to a photo that they don't create their own designs. The photo had much more water and the deep blue at the bottom actually came nowhere near the boat. I wanted to show my students how to crop it for my purposes. I "scribbled" my initial design roughly and then went right into carving with paint.

Demo...Boats Abstraction

Boats are often a good way to think abstractly about shapes and paint shapes without concern for what they are. Since I know next to nothing about boats, whenever I paint them, it is all about carving shapes I see, colors and reflections. The overall design of the painting is very important

Demo of fruit and material

Some of my students decided we should do a Cezannesque still life...lots of fruit and folds. So we set up this still life and the idea was to get the folds in the foreground and material with pattern in the background. Although it proved extremely challenging, everyone did really well!
